Corn Board Member Hoping For Resolution To Tariff Situation

Primghar, Iowa — Farmers across Iowa are hoping the tariff and trade situation gets figured out sooner rather than later.

We talked with Kelly Nieuwenhuis, who is the Iowa Corn Promotion Board Director from northwest Iowa. He tells us that the market is suffering right now due to the tariff situation, but China had told them last year that they did need ethanol.

Niewenhuis says it would be beneficial for the corn market for the Canada and Mexico agreement to be finished.

US Senator Chuck Grassley says that that agreement is moving forward. Plus, he says President Trump is working on an agreement with Japan, where US beef has not been accepted since Mad Cow Disease in 2003. He says Trump also brokered an agreement with South Korea. According to Grassley, more beef is going into Europe too.

Grassley says a group of lawmakers was talking with the President a while back.

Grassley made those comments during his 99-county stop in Rock Rapids on Tuesday.
