Study Tracks Walleye Population at Iowa Great Lakes

For the past 21 years, every walleye caught during the April gillnetting season at the Iowa Great Lakes received a unique alpha numeric tag, gave up a spine and was measured before heading back to the cool water from which they came.
That information has been feeding a database now stretching 24,000 walleyes strong and is being used to keep track of the health of one of the most important populations used for Iowas fish culture program.

Kibbie Resigns; Johnson Will Not Have To Run For Re-Election


Senator Jack Kibbie, a Democrat from Emmetsburg has tendered his resignation from the Iowa Senate, effective at the end of this session.

That could be good news for Senator David Johnson, a Republican from Ocheyedan.

Johnson currently serves Osceola, O’Brien, Dickinson, Clay, and far eastern Sioux Counties.

Fire In Sioux Center Destroys Out Buildings

On Saturday, February 4, at 3:22 pm, the Sioux County Communications Center received a report of a fire in progress at 2533 410th St., seven miles southwest of Sioux Center.

The fire fully engulfed an outbuilding containing a tele-handler tractor, silage equipment, tarps and other items. It was considered a total loss.
