Calumet Woman Injured In Thanksgiving Day Collision With Tractor

Peterson, Iowa — A Calumet woman was taken to the Spencer Hospital, then airlifted to a Sioux Falls Hospital, after her pickup struck a farm tractor Thanksgiving afternoon.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, their 911 Call Center received a call of a personal injury crash in the 1000-mile of 460th Street, near Peterson around 2:15 Thursday afternoon.

Authorities say the collision occurred when a 1978 International 1486 farm tractor, operated by Steven Biedenfeld of Peterson, pulled out from a field drive, and attempted to cross 460th Street, northbound. According to deputies, an eastbound 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup, driven by Lynda Hoermann of Calumet, struck the Beidenfeld tractor broadside. The crash report indicates that neither driver saw the other before the crash.

According to authorities, Hoermann was taken from the scene to the Spencer Hospital, and later airlifted to Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls with serious injuries. Biedenfeld was reportedly unhurt in the crash.

Clay County deputies were assisted at the scene by Spencer Ambulance, Peterson Fire & Rescue, Royal Fire & Rescue, Sutherland Fire & Rescue, Sutherland Police Department, O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, and Bud’s Service.
