Canton Boy Apprehended After Police Chase

Inwood, Iowa — A Canton, South Dakota boy has been apprehended after he led Canton Police and Lyon County Sheriff Deputies on a chase.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Sunday March 6, 2016 at about 2:10 AM a pursuit entered into Lyon County on Highway 18 west of Inwood. A stolen vehicle was being pursued by the Canton Police. The Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle had been stolen out of Sioux Falls, and had a loaded hand gun inside of it.

The pursuit continued to Inwood and went north on Highway 182. A Lyon County Deputy was able to deploy stop sticks which the vehicle struck, flattening the front two tires. Lyon County Deputies and Canton Police pursued the vehicle until it stopped in front of the West Lyon High School.

The driver, a juvenile male from Canton was taken into custody without incident.

The boy was charged with eluding, a serious misdemeanor and operating without owner’s consent, an aggravated misdemeanor. The juvenile was then released to his mother in Canton, and subsequently taken into custody by the Canton Police Department.
