According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, shortly after 10:30 Saturday night, 33-year old Oscar Ramirez‐De La Rosa, of Sioux City, was westbound on 9th Street Southeast in Sioux Center, when he stopped his 1998 Toyota Camry and turned on the emergency flashers. Deputies say 27-year old Sioux Center Police Officer Josh Koedam was driving a 2015 Ford Explorer Police vehicle when he observed the stopped Toyota with the flashers on. They say Koedam drove behind it, stopped the patrol vehicle and activated the emergency lights. Ramirez‐De La Rosa then reportedly backed the Camry into the Explorer.
No injuries were reported.
Deputies estimated damage to the Toyota at approximately $50. The police vehicle was not damaged.
Upon further investigation, officers say they suspected that Ramirez‐De La Rosa was under the influence of alcohol. Deputies say Ramirez‐De La Rosa was cited by the Sheriff’s Office for operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, and arrested by the Sioux Center Police Department for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
