High-Speed Chase Leads To Charges Against Driver, Passenger

Police lightbar chaseLyon County, Iowa — A Female juvenile led Lyon County deputies on a brief high-speed chase Saturday that began on Highway 75 east of Alvord.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, one of their deputies was northbound in the 2100 mile of Highway 75, shortly after 3:40 Saturday afternoon, when he met a southbound vehicle that was traveling at a very high rate of speed.

The deputy reportedly activated his emergency lights and siren, and gave chase.  Authorities say the vehicle attempted to elude the deputy by turning westbound on 220th Street, and then turning south on Franklin Blvd.  Deputies say the vehicle eventually pulled over on Franklin Blvd.

Authorities say the vehicle was operated by a juvenile female, who was subsequently charged with Speeding (106 mph in a 55 mph zone), Failure to Slow Down/Move Over for Certain Vehicles, Violation of a Restricted License, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, all simple misemeanors.  In addition, the girl was charged with Eluding, which is a Serious Misdemeanor.

According to authorities, the girl was was transported to Estherville and released to Forest Ridge Youth Services, following the investigation..

Deputies say there was a passenger in the vehicle, who was identified as 18-year old Grant Zevenbergen of Rock Valley. Deputies say Zevenbergen was subsequently arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, which is a Serious Misdemeanor.
