Man Suspected Of Gas Thefts Arrested

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center man has been arrested on a number of charges.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Thursday afternoon, January 14, they arrested 25-year-old Sergio Sanchez of Sioux Center.

The arrest stemmed from an ongoing investigation of several incidents where it was suspected that Sanchez obtained fuel for his vehicle from area convenience stores and left without paying. The crimes in question occurred in Sioux Center, Hawarden, and Rock Valley, and took place between Wednesday, December 16, 2015 and Wednesday, January 13, 2016.

After seeing Sanchez driving the vehicle believed to have been used in the thefts, deputies stopped him at the intersection of Highway 75 and Ninth Street Southeast in Sioux Center.

Sanchez was arrested and was charged with five counts of theft, fraudulent use of registration and unlawful possession of a prescribed drug.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Sioux Center, Hawarden, and the Rock Valley police departments assisted them.
