The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 9th, 28-year-old Andrew Darby of Milwaukee, Wisconsin was driving a 2015 Ford belonging to PV Holding Corp of Chicago, Illinois westbound on A34, about three miles north and two west of Melvin. They say 63-year-old Wayne Eugene Kooiman of Chandler, Minnesota was driving a 1995 International semi northbound on Highway 59.

The report says Darby came to a stop at the intersection of A34 and Highway 59 and proceeded to drive through the intersection, without yielding to the semi. Both drivers attempted evasive actions to avoid a collision but were unsuccessful. The Ford spun around and came to a stop in the east ditch of Highway 59. The semi went off the roadway into the west ditch. While in the ditch the trailer drove over a field driveway and went airborne.

The Sibley Ambulance took Kooiman to the Osceola Community Hospital.

The Ford received about $15,000 in damage and the semi received about $25,000 in damage, according to the report.

Melvin Ambulance and Fire Department personnel assisted at the scene.
