Sanborn Man Injured After Falling Asleep At The Wheel

AccidentGeneric 2Hartley, Iowa – A Sanborn man was taken to the hospital after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing his pickup earlier this week.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, shortly after 5 am Monday, December 7th, 22-year old Troy Simons of Sanborn was southbound on Vine Avenue, approaching 280th Street, in a 2003 Chevrolet pickup, when the truck left the road and struck a culvert.

Deputies say Simons had been working all night cleaning out a hog building, and apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

Simons was taken to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by Hartley Ambulance with what deputies call suspected serious or incapacitating injuries.

Simons’ pickup sustained an estimated $9,000 damage in the crash.  He was ticketed for Failure To Maintain Control.
