Semi, Pickup Sideswipe West Of Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — A Paullina man reported minor injuries after the pickup he was driving sideswiped a semi-tractor west of Sheldon Monday morning.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 31-year old Daniel Horstman of Paullina was driving a 2000 Ford F-250 pickup westbound on Highway 18, shortly after 5:30 Monday morning, when he met an eastbound 2014 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer rig, driven by 40-year old John Kleve of Sanborn.  Deputies say as the two vehicles met, they sideswiped each other on the roadway.  Following the collision, both vehicles reportedly entered the north ditch, coming to rest in a field.

Deputies say Horstman reported minor injuries, but declined further medical attention.

Damage to Horstman’s pickup is estimated at $5-thousand, with an estimated $30-thousand damage to Kleve’s semi.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Sheldon Police Department, Boyden Ambulance, and Boyden Fire Department.

Deputies say the accident remains under investigation.
