Sheldon Man Arrested After Hitting Eagle’s Sign

sheldon police smallSheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man escaped injury, but didn’t escape arrest, after crashing his car into a business sign in front of the Eagle’s Club in Sheldon on Sunday afternoon, March 19th.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that just before 1:00 pm on Sunday, 50-year-old Brian Parks of Sheldon was driving a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle northbound on 4th Avenue, turning east onto Park Street in Sheldon. According to the report, Parks accelerated hard causing his tires to spin, at which point he lost control, and accelerated across the center lane into the oncoming traffic lane. The vehicle proceeded over the curb, and through the landscaping, before hitting the Eagle’s Club sign, coming to rest in the Eagle’s Club parking lot.

The Chevelle received about $10,000 damage. The sign also sustained an estimated $10,000 damage.

The report says Parks was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, 1st offense, a serious misdemeanor, along with with careless driving, a simple misdemeanor, failure to provide proof of insurance, failure to maintain control, and operating a non-registered vehicle.
