Sioux County Sheriff Seeks Public’s Help

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating an individual who fled the scene of a traffic crash that sent a Sioux Center woman to the hospital Sunday afternoon.

According to authorities, the crash happened shortly before 5 o’clock Sunday afternoon when a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by 52-year old Lorene Vander Plaats of Sioux Center, was eastbound on 400th Street, when a westbound 2006 Pontiac Grand Am crossed the center of the roadway, striking Vander Plaats’ van.  The driver of the Pontiac then fled the scene on foot.

Vander Plaats was taken to the Sioux Center Hospital by Sioux Center Ambulance.

Deputies are now looking for a person of interest in the case, who they identify as 19-year old Audencio Lopez-Chilel.  If you have any information about this crash, or about Lopez-Chilel, you’re asked to contact the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
