Calumet, Iowa — A Sutherland man escaped injury after hitting a pair of horses on the road near Calumet on Tuesday, February 14th.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that just before 2 AM on Tuesday, 42-year-old Jerad DeVos of Sutherland was driving a 2017 Freightliner westbound on 500th Street, south of Calument. According to the report, DeVos was unable to avoid a group of horses on the roadway and struck two of them.
The Freightliner received $10,457 damage. The horses were valued at $500 each.
No injuries were reported.
