UPDATE: Three Injured In Highway 60 Crash

Sheldon, Iowa — Three people were transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center Tuesday evening in the aftermath of a crash that had northbound traffic on Highway 60 tied-up for more than 3-1/2 hours.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the crash occurred shortly before 7:30 Tuesday evening, when a 1993 Oldsmobile Royale, driven by 18-year old Reuben Iedema of Sheldon, was eastbound on 360th Street, approaching Highway 60.  Deputies say Iedema failed to stop for the stop sign at the Highway 60 intersection, striking a northbound 2014 Chevrolet Cruz, driven by 77-year old Glenn De Jong of Hospers.

Authorities say Iedema, along with two passengers in De Jong’s car, 48-year old Beth Ackerman-Schultz of Alton, and 76-year old Jackie De Jong of Hospers, were transported to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by SCAT, for treatment of their injuries.

Deputies estimate the damage to Iedema’s Oldsmobile at $2,000, with damage to De Jong’s Chevrolet estimated at $9,500.

Sioux County deputies were assisted by the Sheldon Police Department, Sheldon Ambulance and Sheldon Fire Department.
