Wild Ride Sends Primghar Woman To Hospital

Hartley, Iowa — A Primghar woman was taken to the hospital following a single-vehicle crash southeast of Hartley early Monday evening.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, the mishap happened shortly after 5:30 Monday evening, when a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 64-year old Connee Jenness of Primghar, was westbound in the 6900 mile of 360th Street, about 8 miles southeast of Hartley.

Jenness reportedly told deputies that she fell asleep at the wheel of the pickup, which then crossed the eastbound lane of traffic and entered the south ditch, where it continued 559-feet in the ditch before striking a driveway culvert.  Deputies say Jenness’ vehicle then became airborne, and continued in the ditch for another 1,536-feet before striking a second culvert in a farm field driveway, becoming airborne a second time, then continuing another 148-feet, before coming to stop in the south ditch, still facing westbound.

Jenness was transported to the Baum Harmon Mercy Medical Center in Primghar by Hartley EMS.
