Woman Taken To Hospital After Accident

Ireton, Iowa — A Hawarden woman was taken to a hospital after an accident near Ireton on Friday, June 19.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 3:45 PM, 71-year-old Peter Dekkers of Hawarden was driving a 1992 Chevrolet Caprice Classic northbound on Eagle Avenue, four miles north of Ireton. They say 80-year-old Joann Ericson of Hawarden was driving a 2005 Ford Five Hundred westbound on 420th Street.

According to the report, Ericson failed to stop for the stop sign at Eagle Avenue. It says the Dekkers vehicle struck the Ericson vehicle. It then entered the north ditch and rolled.

The Ireton Ambulance took Ericson to the Hawarden Hospital.

The Ford sustained approximately $15,000 in damages. The Chevrolet sustained an estimated $10,000 in damages.

The report says Ericson was cited for failing to obey a stop sign.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Sioux Center Police Department, Ireton Ambulance crew, Sioux Center Fire
Department, Sioux Center Ambulance crew and the Hawarden Fire Department assisted them at the scene.
