The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 1:15 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, 36-year-old Joshua Biery of Paullina was driving a 1997 International dump truck westbound on Highway 18, a mile west of Sanborn. Ninety year-old Lucille Groendyke of Rock Rapids was also westbound on 18 in a 1997 Mercury.

The report says that Biery was signaling to turn south onto Redwing Avenue, but waited for the oncoming traffic to pass before completing the turn. Groendyke was behind Biery and failed to stop, and rear-ended the dump truck.

The Sanborn Ambulance took Groendyke to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

Biery’s International dump truck sustained $300 in damages, and Groendyke’s Mercury sustained $2500 in damages, which totaled the car.

Groendyke was charged with failure to maintain control.

Incidentally, law enforcement officers confirm that the dump truck and its driver in this accident (Joshua Biery) were also involved in a separate accident about an hour later. Find that report here.
