Trailer Breakdown Causes One Lane Traffic On Highway 18

Sheldon, Iowa — Traffic was down to one-lane on Highway 18 near Northwest Iowa Community College Thursday afternoon due to a livestock trailer breakdown on the highway.

Witness reports indicate that a west bound pickup truck was pulling a gooseneck trailer loaded with livestock, when the trailer broke, causing the front edge of the trailer body to drop onto the pavement.  Sheldon Police and Emergency Management Agency personnel were dispatched to control traffic about 4:15 Thursday afternoon, since the westbound lane of Highway 18 had to be closed.

The highway was reduced to one-lane, alternating direction, travel for nearly two hours, until a second trailer could be dispatched to the scene, the livestock transferred to the second trailer, and the original trailer and pickup removed.
