2 Drivers Injured In Saturday Downtown Sheldon Crash

Sheldon, Iowa — Both drivers were taken to the hospital as the result of an accident in downtown Sheldon early Saturday afternoon.

According to the Sheldon Police Department accident report, a 2007 Dodge Caravan minivan, driven by 58-year old Martha Castro of Primghar, was northbound on 3rd Avenue downtown. A 2011 Jeep Compass, driven by 32-year-old Alma Parilla Amador of Sheldon, was eastbound on 8th Street, and stopped at the stop sign at the 3rd Avenue intersection. Police say Parrilla Amador pulled from the stop sign and struck Castro’s van, which had entered the intersection.

Authorities say both Parrilla Amador and Castro were taken to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team.

Damage to Castro’s minivan was estimated at $5,000, with about $4,500 damage estimated to Parrilla Amador’s Jeep.

Parrilla Amador was reportedly ticketed for Failure to Yield from a Stop Sign.
