Accident Leads to Sheldon Woman’s Arrest

Sioux Sheriff 84-8 FacebookSheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon woman was arrested on Sunday, November 27th after an accident south of Sheldon.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 6:09 pm on Sunday, 35-year-old Shannon Maasdam of Sheldon was driving a 2010 Ford Focus southbound on McKinley Avenue, one-half mile south of Sheldon. According to the report, Maasdam lost control of the vehicle, struck a bridge guard rail and entered the west ditch. The report continues that upon further investigation, deputies suspected that Maasdam was under the influence of alcohol. Maasdam was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and cited with a charge of failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

The Ford received $10,000 damage; the guard rail received $2,000 damage.

Maasdam received minor injuries but declined medical attention.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office and the Sheldon Police Department.
