Akron Man, Mount Marty Golf Team Injured In Crash

Westfield, Iowa — An Akron man and a sports team and their driver from South Dakota were taken to hospitals after an accident on Thursday, September 13th near Westfield.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s office reports that about 6:30 p.m., a Jeep Renegade driven by 18-year-old Schon Mack of Akron was northbound on Highway 12 near Westfield. They say 24-year-old Logan Wagner of Parkston, South Dakota was driving a southbound Ford passenger bus. Including Wagner, there were six passengers in the bus. The report says that the passengers of the bus were a part of a golf team from Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota.

Mack, the driver of the jeep sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. All six occupants of the other vehicle were taken to the Hawarden Regional Hospital. Their injuries were described as non-life threatening.

Officers conducting the investigation believe it appears the Jeep Renegade attempted to pass another northbound vehicle and hit the bus head-on in the southbound lane of travel.

The Iowa State Patrol and Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office are continuing their investigation.
