Archer, Sheldon Fire Departments Put Out Fire

Archer, Iowa — Two area fire departments teamed up to put out a fire near Archer on Sunday.

According to Archer Fire Chief Don De Boer, the Archer Fire Department was called out about 3:30 p.m. to the call of a structure fire at 5135 360th Street. That’s a mile north and a mile and a half west of Archer, or a half mile east, four south, and a mile and a half further east of the Highway 18 exit on Highway 60 at Sheldon.

Chief De Boer says it was called in as a barn fire, so they asked for help from the Sheldon Fire Company. When they got there, they found a brush pile that had been burned on a previous day had rekindled with the strong wind. He says a small 10 by 10-foot building was also lost in the fire, but they were able to get it put out.

He says there were no injuries reported.

He says the approximately 15 firefighters who responded were on scene for about an hour.

De Boer says they responded to a similar call on Friday night at about 10 minutes to 8. He says that one was at 3631 Oriole Avenue, about a half mile north of Archer.

That one was called out as a grove fire, and De Boer says it was a similar situation with an old fire rekindling and it started the grove on fire. He says there were no injuries. They used between eight hundred and nine hundred gallons of water, and the eight firefighters who responded were there for about an hour.
