Both Drivers Injured In 2-Vehicle Crash

Hartley, Iowa — A two-vehicle collision southwest of Hartley sent both drivers to area hospitals.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office the crash occurred when a 2007 Ford Escape, driven by 31-year old Kara Kramer of Spencer, who was working for the U.S. Postal Service, was northbound on Van Buren Avenue. Deputies say Kramer’s secondary brake pedal would not decompress, and she was unable to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with 360th Street, where her vehicle collided with an eastbound 2004 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 62-year old Virgil Crouch of Primghar.

According to the accident report, , after the accident, Kramer’s SUV came to rest in the ditch near the intersection, while Crouch’s pickup came to rest on its driver’s side.

Deputies say Kramer was taken to the Spencer Municipal Hospital by Primghar Ambulance, while Crouch was taken to the Primghar Hospital by private vehicle.

Authorities reportedly charged Kramer with Failure To Obey a Stop Sign. Damage to Kramer’s SUV was estimated at $5-thousand, with estimated damage to Crouch’s pickup was set at $10-thousand.
