Fire Damages House In Calumet

Calumet, Iowa– A house was damaged in a fire on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 in Calumet.

According to Calumet Fire Chief Mike Jensen, about 1:20 p.m., the Calumet Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 320 North Morse Avenue.

He reports that they found the fire in a heater on the west side of the house in a bathroom on the second floor.

Jensen says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by Paullina and Sutherland Fire Departments.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to have been electrical in nature.

Chief Jensen reports that there was moderate damage. He says there was some smoke damage and they also had to open an exterior wall to get at the fire. He says, fortunately, the fire was not into the attic.

He says they used about 120 gallons of water to fight the fire, and the approximately 25 firefighters who responded were on scene for about an hour and a half.
