Five Taken To Hospital After Sioux Center Accident

Sioux Center, Iowa — Five people were taken to a hospital after an accident in Sioux Center on Thursday, August 29, 2019.

The Sioux Center Police Department reports that about 4:30 PM, 82-year-old Merlyn Johnson of Maurice was driving a 2000 Mercury southbound on Highway 75, near Pizza Hut. They say 26-year-old Troy Kunnari of Sioux Center was also southbound in front of Johnson on 75 in a 2007 Volkswagen.

The report says that Kunnari was slowing to turn into a driveway, and Johnson did not see that and rear-ended the Kunnari vehicle.

Johnson, Kunnari, and three passengers in the Kunnari vehicle were all taken to Sioux Center Health by family members.

Johnson’s Mercury sustained $6000 in damages, which was enough to total the car. Kunnari’s Volkswagen also sustained $6000 in damages.

Sioux Center Police Chief Mike Halma says possible charges are pending.
