Hawarden Man Faces Felony Sexual Abuse Charge

Hawarden, Iowa — A Hawarden man is behind bars, accused of sexual abuse in 2015.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrest log says the Hawarden Police Department arrested 33-year-old Antonio Rodriguez-Diaz on Saturday on a warrant for third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony; and a misdemeanor offense of indecent contact with a child.

According to court records, police believe that in January 2015, Rodriguez-Diaz asked a 16-year-old girl to help him with an injury and that he inappropriately touched the girl while they were behind closed doors.

According to the criminal complaint, the girl told authorities about the incident in May 2017.

If convicted of a class C felony, Rodriguez-Diaz would face a penalty of ten years in prison and a fine of between $1,000 and $10,000, per Iowa code.

According to jail records, at last report, he remained in the Sioux County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
