Hot Time Near NCC Tuesday Morning

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Fire Company responded to a somewhat unusual call Tuesday morning west of Sheldon.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Brad Hindt, firefighters were called out at 9:37 Tuesday morning to the report of a semi tractor-trailer rig that was eastbound on Highway 18, approaching Sheldon, with its trailer tires on fire. Apparently the truck’s driver didn’t realize the tires were ablaze.

Hindt says Sheldon Police intercepted the truck near NCC, and pulled it over. By that time, Hindt says, the tires that had been burning had completely come off the trailer.

Sheldon Firefighters cooled down the trailer’s brakes, and returned to the fire station at 10:03 am.
