Inwood Man Injured When ATV Crashes Into Barbed Wire Fence

Sioux County, Iowa — An Inwood man was injured Sunday night in an ATV crash that happened in northwestern Sioux County.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office the accident happened shortly after 9 pm Sunday, on Beech Avenue, about 13 miles northwest of Rock Valley.  Deputies say their investigation showed that a 2013 Polaris Sportsman 570 ATV had been southbound on Beech Avenue, when the machine’s operator lost control of the vehicle, entered the southeast ditch, and struck a barbed wire fence.

Sioux County authorities say the ATV’s operator, 28-year old Kellen King, of Inwood, was taken by ambulance to the Canton-Inwood Hospital, then later transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital, for treatment of his injuries.

Deputies estimate damage to the ATV at $5-thousand.  The fence sustained an estimated $500 in damage.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Canton Ambulance and the Fairview, South Dakota Fire Department.

Authorities say alcohol is believed to be involved, and the accident remains under investigation.
