Man Taken To Hospital After Sioux Center Accident

Sioux Center AmbulanceSioux Center, Iowa — A Le Mars man was taken to the hospital after an accident in Sioux Center on Saturday, March 18th, 2017.

The Sioux Center Police Department reports that about 9:35 a.m., 64-year-old Rodney Kooiker of Boyden was driving a 2001 Chevy pickup eastbound on Ninth Street Southeast (that’s B40) on Sioux Center’s east side. They report that 20-year-old Justin Schmidt of Le Mars was northbound on Thirteenth Avenue Southeast in a 2008 Chevy.

The report says that Schmidt came to a stop at the intersection and then continued through the intersection, when his car was struck by the Kooiker pickup. The report says Kooiker told the officer that he couldn’t see the 4-way stop signs or the Schmidt car, due to the glare of the sun on his windshield. He stated he did not stop at the intersection.

The Sioux Center Ambulance took Schmidt to Sioux Center Health Hospital.

Kooiker’s Chevy pickup sustained $2000 in damages, and Schmidt’s Chevy sustained $4000 in damages.

Kooiker was charged with failure to obey a stop sign.

Personnel from the Sioux Center Ambulance and Sioux Center Fire Department assisted the Sioux Center Police Department at the scene.
