One Person Transported After Hwy 60 Crash

AccidentGeneric 2Sheldon, Iowa — A Sibley woman sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash that happened early Monday evening a mile north of Sheldon on Highway 60.

According to O’Brien County Sheriff’s Deputies, the accident happened about 5:15 Monday afternoon, when a 2005 Chevy truck, driven by 58-year old Brian Burkhart of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, was northbound on Highway 60, and slowed to make a right turn onto 300th Street.  Deputies say that a 2011 Mitsubishi, driven by 34-year old Jill Wasmund of Sibley was northbound behind the Burkhart truck.  Wasmund told deputies that she had been distracted by a cellular device, and failed to see the truck slow and signal for the turn.  Wasmund’s Mitsubishi struck the Chevy in the rear, causing it to enter the east ditch, where it came to rest on a large cement culvert.

Wasmund was transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by SCAT, with what are described as minor injuries.

Damage to Burkhart’s Chevy truck was estimated at $3,500, with approximately $12-thousand estimated damage to Wasmund’s Mitsubishi.

Wasmund was ticketed for Following Too Close, according to the report.
