Sheldon Police Investigate Explosion & Fire

Sheldon, Iowa — An investigation is underway into what was reported as a loud explosion and fire in the back yard of a Sheldon residence last (Wednesday) night.

Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Brad Hindt tells KIWA that firefighters were dispatched to the report of an explosion and fire at 322 West 10th Street shortly before 8:30 last night. Hindt says that on arrival firefighters discovered a small, unattended fire in the back yard of that residence. He says the fire was quickly extinguished, and fire crews were back in the station by 9:30.

Hindt says 18 Sheldon firefighters responded to the call, as did the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, and the Sheldon Police Department.

Sheldon Police continue to investigate the incident, according to Hindt.
