Sioux Center Fire Department Puts Out Trackside Fire

Sioux Center, Iowa– The Sioux Center Fire Department was called out to a grass fire on Sunday, September 16, 2018, in Sioux Center.

According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, about 4:30 p.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of a fire along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks south of Tower Fields, south of Ninth Street Southwest.

The chief says the fire department saw the grass on fire as they approached the scene. Van Holland says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire is thought to have been something hot such as a hot wheel or brake shoe under a passing train.

Chief Van Holland reports that damage was limited to about a quarter of a mile of grass just along the tracks. He says the tracks and ties were not damaged.

He says they used about 2,000 gallons of water to fight the fire.
