Spirit Lake Couple Injured In Two-Vehicle Collision

Hartley, Iowa — Two people were transported to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash near Hartley Saturday afternoon.

O’Brien County authorities say the crash occurred shortly after 3:45 Saturday afternoon in the 3800 mile of Vine Avenue, or about three miles south of Meadowbrook Country Club. Authorities say the mishap happened when a northbound 2018 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by 42-year-old Chad David Carey of Cherokee crossed the center line into the path of a southbound 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, driven by 70-year-old James Carl Rosenboom of Spirit Lake. According to authorities the left front of Carey’s truck struck the left front of the Rosenboom pickup.  Deputies say Carey’s Dodge came to rest on the east shoulder of the road. Rosenboom’s Chevrolet rolled one time and came to rest on its wheels, also on the east shoulder.

Rosenboom and his passenger, 70-year-old Rhonda Rosenboom, were transported to Mercy One in Primghar by the Hartley Ambulance. The report says Carey was uninjured.

Damage to Carey’s Dodge were estimated at $13 thousand, with deputies terming the Rosenboom truck a total loss.

Carey was cited for Failure to Yield Half the Roadway.
