Three Apprehended In Spray Paint Vandalism Case

Rock Rapids, Iowa — On Saturday morning, people began finding items vandalized with spray paint in Lyon County. Now Lyon County Sheriff’s officials are advising that they have apprehended three people thought to have been involved.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has charged three individuals with Criminal Mischief in the third degree, an aggravated misdemeanor after investigating the rash of vandalism reports that occurred between the night of Friday June 17, 2016 and the morning of Saturday June 18, 2016. The first of four reports came on the morning of Saturday June 18, 2016. Spray paint damage was done to the Central Lyon High School’s lion statue, a street in Rock Rapids, the George Swimming Pool, and a parking sign at the Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that 18-year-old Jordan Groen of Little Rock was arrested on Sunday, June 19. That same day a juvenile male was cited into Juvenile Court. They report that 18-year-old Dylan Van Gorp of George was arrested on Tuesday, June 21.

The total damage was estimated to be $700.00
