Three Injured In Late Afternoon Crash Near Alton Monday

Alton, Iowa — Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident near Alton late Monday afternoon.

According to a report from the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at the intersection of 450th Street and Kingbird Avenue, two miles east of Alton.

Deputies say a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by 16-year-old Blaine De Jong of Alton was eastbound on 450th Street, and 31-year-old Chelsey Keizer of Sioux Center was northbound on Kingbird Avenue in a 2008 Ford Taurus X, when the two vehicles collided in the intersection. After the collision, both drivers lost control and entered the ditches north and east of the intersection, with the Taurus X coming to rest on its side.

Authorities say Keizer was taken by the Orange City Ambulance to the Orange City Hospital, while two passengers in De Jong’s pickup were transported by Orange City and Alton Ambulances to the Orange City Hospital.

The F-150 sustained approximately $2,000 in damage. The Taurus X sustained approximately $10,000 in damage, according to deputies’ estimates.

De Jong was reportedly cited for failing to yield to a vehicle on the right and violation of conditions of a restricted driver’s license.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Alton Ambulance, Alton Fire Department, Orange City Ambulance and Orange City Police Department.
