Three Semi-Tractor Crash Injures One, Causes Major Property Damage

Hull, Iowa — An Ashton man was injured, and a total of more than $50-thousand in property damage is reported in the aftermath of a three truck crash near Hull late Saturday morning.

According to the Iowa State Patrol crash report, the mishap occurred during the “Commercial Chaos For A Cure” fundraising event, shortley before 11:30 Saturday morning.

Troopers report that close to 100 semi-tractors were involved in the “Commercial Chaos For A Cure” convoy. They say the convoy was northbound on Highway 75, when the line of vehicles slowed quickly and came to a stop. According to authorities, a 2002 Peterbilt semi-tractor, driven by 23-year old Brandon Erickson of Alvord was unable to slow down and stop in time to avoid hitting another 2002 Peterbilt, driven by 47-year old Korwyn Roos, of Ashton. According to the crash report, the impact pushed the Roos truck into a 2009 Peterbilt, driven by 19-year old Brennen Hughes, of Boyden.

Troopers say Roos was taken to the hospital to be treated for a gash on his head.

Estimated damage to the Hughes Peterbilt was about $8-thousand, with much more severe damage to the other two vehicles. Damage to Erickson’s truck was estimated at $25-thousand, while damages to the Roos truck were estimated at $20-thousand.

Troopers say Erickson’s truck had to be towed from the scene, while the other two vehicles were able to be driven away from the scene of the crash.
