Two From Hartley Sent To Hospital After Crash

Sanborn, Iowa– A Hartley woman and a Hartley man were taken to the hospital after a crash near Sanborn.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 12:10 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018, 58-year-old Rita Cotter of Hartley was driving a 2015 Chevy eastbound on Highway 18, four miles east of Sanborn. Seventy-eight-year-old Jerry Olson of Hartley was eastbound behind Cotter on 18 in a 2012 Chevy.

The report says that Cotter was stopped in the roadway behind other stopped vehicles as they waited for the pilot car in a road work zone. According to the deputy, Olson rear-ended the Cotter vehicle and then proceeded to enter the south ditch and travel approximately 290 feet before stopping on the shoulder of the roadway.

The Hartley Ambulance took Cotter and Olson to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

Cotter’s Chevy sustained $6700 in damages, and Olson’s Chevy sustained $5300 in damages.

Olson was charged with failure to maintain control.
