UPDATE: Two Injured In Snowmobile Crash Near Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — On Sunday, February 11th, at 4:15 p.m., The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was called to a snowmobile accident that occurred at 4421 320th Street, three miles west of Sheldon.

According to authorities, the crash happened when a 1996 Yamaha XT600 snowmobile, driven by an 11-year old Sioux Falls girl, was northbound on the property, when she accelerated the machine instead of braking, and struck a roll-off dumpster. Deputies say the driver, along with her 16-year old female passenger, were ejected from the snowmobile.

Both girls were transported by the Sheldon Community AmbulanceTeam to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment of their injuries, according to deputies.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sheldon Fire Department, Sheldon Ambulance and the Iowa State Patrol.

Sheldon, Iowa — Rescue crews were summoned late Sunday afternoon to the report of a snowmobile accident at 4421 320th Street, or about three miles west of Northwest Iowa Community College, on Highway 18.

Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Randy Harms says two individuals were taken to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by Sheldon Ambulance.

No further information was available as of mid-morning Monday.
