Two Taken To Hospital After Boyden Accident

Boyden, Iowa — A Rock Rapids woman and her passenger were taken to the hospital after an accident near Boyden on Tuesday afternoon.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 4:44 p.m. Tuesday, 81-year-old James Doorenbos of Boyden was driving a 1997 Ford F‐150 pickup southbound on Kennedy Avenue. They report that 74-year-old Viola McKenney of Rock Rapids was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox eastbound on Highway 18.

According to the report, Doorenbos stopped for the stop sign at Highway 18, and drove into the intersection where his pickup was struck by the McKenney vehicle.

The Boyden Ambulance took McKenney and a passenger in her vehicle to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

Doorenbos’s Ford pickup sustained $3,000 in damage. McKenney’s Chevrolet sustained $8,000 in damage.

Doorenbos was cited on a charge of failure to yield the right of way.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Iowa State Patrol, Boyden Ambulance crew and Boyden Fire Department assisted them.
