The Sioux Center Police Department reports that about 3:30 PM on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, 75-year-old JoAnn Westra of Hull was driving a 2005 Chrysler eastbound on a driveway on the west side of North Main Avenue — that’s Highway 75 in Sioux Center. Fifty-seven year-old Gerry Nettinga of Sioux Center was southbound on 75 in a 2003 Mercury, in the inside lane.

The report says that Westra was exiting the driveway and intended to make a left turn to go north. She told the officer that she looked before entering the highway but did not see Nettinga. The front of the Nettinga Mercury hit the front driver’s side of the Westra Chrysler.

The report says the Sioux Center Ambulance took Westra to the Sioux Center Health Hospital, and Nettinga drove himself to Sioux Center Health.

Westra’s Chrysler sustained an estimated $5000 in damages, and Nettinga’s Mercury sustained an estimated $2000 in damages.

Westra was charged with failure to yield upon entering a through highway.
