Inwood, Iowa — A Doon woman was taken to the hospital and four vehicles were damaged after an accident near Inwood on Monday, February 15th.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department reports that about 8:55 AM, 59-year-old Joseph Lloyd of Inwood was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Cleveland Avenue, about three miles northeast of Inwood, and came to a stop at the A-34 stop sign. The report says 24-year-old Mary Van Engen of Doon was driving a 2009 KIA Spectra eastbound on A-34.
But, due to the dense fog, Lloyd did not see Van Engen’s vehicle and pulled away from the stop sign. Van Engen’s Kia struck Lloyd’s pickup and came to a rest in the north ditch. Lloyd’s pickup spun and came to a rest in the eastbound lane of A-34.
A Lyon County snow plow truck approached the accident shortly after the accident occurred. The driver parked the truck and exited it to render aid to the crash victims. While the driver was outside of the truck a feed truck owned by the Inwood Hatchery Feed Mill rear ended the county truck. The separate truck accident was covered by the Iowa State Patrol.
The Canton-Inwood Ambulance took Van Engen to the Canton-Inwood hospital. Her injuries were termed “non-life-threatening.”
Lloyd’s pickup was a total loss with $17,000 in damages. Van Engen’s Kia was also a total loss with $4,500 in damages.
Lloyd was cited on a charge of failure to obey a stop sign, a simple misdemeanor.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department says Inwood Fire and Rescue crews, the Canton-Inwood Ambulance crew, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted on the scene.
