Donations Heavily Needed At Monday’s Blood Drive

Sheldon, Iowa — There’s a blood drive in Sheldon on Monday. And word has been received that donations are much-needed at this time.

The Community Blood Bank has issued a critical need for blood prior to the blood drive being held with the Sheldon Chamber of Commerce and KIWA Radio on Monday, June 25. The drive is to be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Community Services Building in Sheldon — across the street from KIWA.

Ken Versteeg, Executive Director of Community Blood Bank says that blood supplies are being depleted at a rapid pace and it is extremely difficult to keep up with demands. He says that there have been many days within the last week where usage is outpacing collection by 40%. He says Community Blood Bank’s hope is to collect enough donations to place supplies at adequate levels before the July 4th holiday. He says all blood donations will go directly to saving patients’ lives in Sheldon.

All who donate at this All American Blood Drive will receive a special All American blood drive t-shirt and a FREE sub meal.

Blood is needed each day in the United States to sustain the lives of patients in need. Whether used for surgery, traumas, during cancer treatment or other life-threatening medical conditions, blood is used to provide hope. There are many blood suppliers throughout the country, some are very large blood providers, some a little smaller and others are hospital operated. Community Blood Bank is hospital operated with a joint, shared resource of Avera and Sanford Health Systems, meaning when you donate on the bloodmobile the donation will go directly back to Sanford Sheldon to save local lives.

He says giving blood is easy to do.

He says that every pint of blood donated can save up to three lives.

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org). Community Blood Bank is not associated with any other blood bank organizations.

Again, a free t-shirt and a FREE sub meal are yours when you donate blood at this All American Blood Drive on Monday.
