Wills Welcomes Visiting Groups During First Week

Des Moines, Iowa — The first week of the 2019 session of the Iowa Legislature is in the books. And one area legislator is telling us about some guests that came to see him.

This past week, District 1 State Representative John Wills (R-Spirit Lake) reports that he welcomed members from Mid-Sioux Opportunity Inc. and Family Development and Self Sufficiency (FaDSS), to the Iowa House of Representatives. They were visiting the Capitol to talk with legislators about promoting their programs.

Wills says that this past week, legislators heard from Governor Kim Reynolds, Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Cady, and the Adjutant General of the Iowa National Guard Timothy Orr. He says that in Governor Reynolds’ Condition of The State speech, she laid out eight major policy issues that she would like to address in the coming legislative session including: mental health funding, children’s mental health reform, felony voting rights restoration, criminal justice protections for employers, workforce development, growing broadband internet in rural Iowa, K-12 education funding, and victims’ rights.

Representative Wills says he was encouraged by each speaker and the leadership they bring to our state. He says he’s proud of what is being accomplished in House District 1 as well. He says that as he listened to each speech, he was reminded of northwest Iowa and “the great people who live there.” He says, “Remember, you help make Iowa the great state it is.” According to Wills, “In order to keep our state moving in the right direction we all must work together.”
