Sibley, Iowa — A seven-year-old discrimination lawsuit filed against a northwest Iowa hospital has been settled.
Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley has settled a lawsuit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission — or EEOC –on behalf of Jodene Kruse. Kruse had claimed that she was wrongfully denied a childcare position with the hospital’s daycare because they were worried that her cerebral palsy would prevent her from providing safe care to children.
Kruger sued, saying that the concern over her cerebral palsy was unfounded. The suit has been settled for $75,000. Plus, the hospital has to adopt and distribute to employees a policy prohibiting discrimination, train employees, and report regularly to the EEOC.
