Rock Rapids, Iowa — Life is not exactly back to normal in Rock Rapids after the flood. In fact it will never be normal again for some residents. They are having to accept a “new normal”. But life is back to normal at least enough to have this year’s Lyon County American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Rock Rapids on Friday, August 8th. It was postponed after the June flood.
Ronda Arends with the Lyon County Relay For Life says there are several events planned.
Arends says there are several things going on. They include a team lap, a scavenger hunt lap, decades laps, a bubble lap called “blown away”, a glow stick lap called “You Light Up My Life, dance laps, and a purple attire lap called “Purple Rain.” There will also be music provided by Rock River Entertainment, games for the kids including Hungry Hippo, and Honorary Survivor Nyla Helling will speak at 7 PM.
If you’d like to purchase a luminaria, just call a team member or Arends at 479-2762. There will also be a survivor lap and survivor reception. Register at the registration table if you are a cancer survivor.
Arends says she’s proud of the community.
Again, the Lyon County Relay For Life goes from 6:00 PM Friday until early Saturday at the Central Lyon Track in Rock Rapids.
