Accidents Near Larchwood End In Fire, Injuries

Larchwood, Iowa — Two accidents occurred near Larchwood in the past week — one resulting in a fire, and both causing injuries.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s office reports that on Monday (7/9), at about 3:25 AM, the Larchwood Fire Department and Larchwood EMS were dispatched to Midwest Livestock in Larchwood for a fire. While en route they were advised that there was a vehicle on fire in the parking lot.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident involving a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Andre Johnson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Johnson was eastbound on Highway 9 when he turned into the parking lot of Midwest Livestock and drove into a parked International straight truck, which caused the car to burst into flames. Johnson was able to get out and was transported to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls by the Lyon County Ambulance.
Midwest Livestock’s 2001 International straight truck had estimated damage of $8000 while the damage to Johnson’s 1999 Ford Escort was estimated at $3500.
On Saturday, July 7, 2012 at about 9:50 PM, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department investigated an accident involving two 4-wheelers on the 1000 block of Cherry Avenue.
Twenty-eight-year-old Lance Schreurs of Larchwood was exiting a waterway onto Cherry Avenue when he collided with 17-year-old Adam Vogelzang of Alvord, who was northbound on Cherry Avenue.
Vogelzang was transported to Avera Hospital by the Lyon County Ambulance. Vogelzang’s 4-wheeler received about $3500 in damage and Schreurs’ 4-wheeler received about $2000 in damage.
The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Larchwood Fire Department and the Larchwood Emergency Medical Services.
