Ag Prices Down In April

Des Moines, Iowa — Average prices received by farmers for agriculture commodities were down as a rule in April, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The April prices were just released.

The average price received by farmers for corn during April in Iowa was $3.34 per bushel according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Agricultural Prices report. This was down $0.09 from the March price and $0.18 below the average price in April 2016.

The April 2017 average price received by farmers for soybeans, at $9.29 per bushel, was down $0.29 from the March price but $0.36 above the April 2016 price.

The April average oat price per bushel was $2.95, down $0.25 from March but $0.41 above April 2016.

All hay prices in Iowa averaged $85.00 per ton in April. This was up $5.00 from the March price but $14.00 less than the average in April 2016. The April 2017 alfalfa hay price averaged $89.00, up $5.00 from March but $15.00 below April 2016. The average price received for other hay during April was $75.00 per ton. This was up $7.00 from the March price but $8.00 lower than last year.

The average price was $17.10 per hundredweight for milk, down $0.60 from the March price but $1.90 above one year ago. Since milk weighs about 8.6 pounds per gallon, the April 2017 average paid to farmers was roughly $1.47 per gallon.
