Archer To Dedicate Veterans Memorial Monday

Archer, Iowa — Many communities around northwest Iowa will be holding services Monday in honor of Memorial Day. But in Archer, their Memorial Day festivities center around the dedication of the new Archer Area Veterans Memorial.

Archer Postmaster Richard Ludeke says the idea for the monument got it’s start about a year ago.

The committee formed to make the Memorial become a reality include Archer residents Ludeke, Bill Engeltjes, Bonnie Frangenburg, and Larry Van Donslear. Ludeke says that, unlike other monuments that bear the veteran’s names, there is a booklet for the Archer Memorial that tells the stories of all 107 Archer Area Veterans.

Ludeke says that, through research for the booklet, they discovered that Archer veterans have been stationed all over the globe.

He says the goal of Monday’s dedication ceremony is to bring people together.

Monday’s dedication of the Archer Area Veterans Memorial will begin at 3:00 at the memorial on Main Street in Archer.
