Area Deputies Handle Truck Accident, Drug Arrest

sheriff genericNorthwest Iowa — A man from Sioux Center and one from Rock Valley managed to avoid injury in a truck versus heavy equipment accident on Wednesday (5/29).

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 2:45 PM, 54-year-old Gerry Nettinga of Sioux Center was driving a 2001 Peterbuilt straight truck northbound on Eagle Avenue, six miles west of Sioux Center. Thirty-seven-year-old Derek Kollis of Rock Valley was backing a Sioux County Highway Department Link‐Belt excavator from a flatbed trailer parked on the shoulder of Eagle Avenue. The Peterbuilt struck the excavator as it passed.

No injuries were reported.

The Peterbuilt sustained about $10,000 in damages. The excavator sustained about $500 in damages.

The accident remains under investigation.

In other news from area Sheriff’s Offices, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that a Doon woman has been arrested for allegedly driving while drugged.

They report that on Tuesday (5/28), they responded to a complaint in Doon. As a result of the investigation of that complaint, they arrested 32-year-old Heidi Jo VandenBosch on a charge of Operating While Intoxicated/Drugged.
