Arrests Made In Theft Of Medication Case

prescription rxRock Rapids, Iowa — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has completed a nearly two-month long investigation, and they’ve made two arrests.

The Sheriff’s office advises that the case arose when their office received a call in February alleging the theft of medication. During the course of the investigation, investigators from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals- Medicaid Fraud division charged two women.

They report that 30-year-old Cassandra Joy VanBerkum of Rock Rapids was charged under Iowa code section 155A.23 prohibited acts – schedule 1, 2, or 3 controlled substance, a class C felony. She was also charged with tampering with records, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Also, they charged 24-year-old Amber Marie Vonk of Rock Valley with theft, a simple misdemeanor.

On Friday, April 21, 2017, VanBerkum was arrested on a valid Lyon County arrest warrant for her charges and was taken to the Lyon County Jail. Her bond was set at $10,000 cash only. Vonk was cited into court on her charge.
